The Best Teams Don't Wait for Permission
One of the biggest leadership lessons I've learned is this:
A lot of businesses unknowingly operate from a "no" culture.
"No, we can't do that."
"No, that's not how we do things."
"No, let me ask someone first."
While there are certainly times when "no" is the right answer, I don't believe it should be the default.
At Sunday Brunch Agency, we've intentionally built something different.
We strive to build a "yes" culture.
That doesn't mean we say yes to every idea.
It means we trust our team to think critically, make sound decisions, and move projects forward without constantly waiting for permission.
Ownership is one of the greatest gifts you can give a team.
When people feel trusted, they begin acting differently.
They become more invested.
More confident.
More accountable.
One thing I encourage our team to do often is this:
Don't just bring me the problem.
Bring me your best solution.
Or better yet, bring me two or three ideas and let's collaborate.
I'm not looking for perfection.
I'm looking for thoughtful problem-solving.
Because once you've taken the time to think through possible solutions, our conversation changes.
We're no longer focused on identifying the issue.
We're focused on finding the best path forward.
That's where great collaboration happens.
To me, leadership isn't about creating people who depend on you for every answer.
It's about creating future leaders.
People who are confident enough to make decisions.
People who take ownership.
People who understand that autonomy comes with accountability.
That's the culture we're building at Sunday Brunch Agency.
One built on trust.
Ownership.
Autonomy.
Accountability.
And the confidence to move things forward.
Because when people feel trusted…
They almost always rise to the occasion.
So I'll leave you with one question to reflect on:
Have you created a culture where people feel empowered to lead… or one where they're waiting for permission?
