There's a quote I've always appreciated:
“If you take pride in the little jobs, people will think you worthy of bigger jobs.”
I think there's an important leadership lesson in that.
As a business owner, I've had the opportunity to work on some incredible projects. At Sunday Brunch Agency, that includes everything from large advertising campaigns to website development and comprehensive marketing strategies.
But I've also rented a U-Haul and helped move a client's clothing and belongings.
And I don't believe one deserves less effort or attention than the other.
Excellence shouldn't depend on the size of the assignment.
Sometimes serving a client means developing a strategy and managing a significant budget. Other times, it means rolling up your sleeves and helping solve a very practical problem.
Both matter.
I've never wanted to build a company where certain tasks are considered beneath us.
Of course, we need to be thoughtful about where we spend our time and how we use our resources. But I also believe there's something powerful about being willing to step in when it matters.
The little jobs are often where trust is built.
When people see that you follow through, pay attention to details, and genuinely care about the outcome, they begin to understand what they can expect from you.
And that trust creates opportunities for bigger responsibilities.
It's not about doing everything yourself.
It's about creating a standard of excellence that applies to everything your company does.
Whether the assignment is small or significant, the commitment to doing it well should remain the same.
Take pride in the little jobs. They're part of the bigger picture.
