I have something I call The Pizza Theory.
Imagine your business as a pizza and every client represents a slice.
I've watched businesses land a large account and naturally start building around it. They hire people specifically for that client, create systems around the work, and dedicate significant resources to servicing the account.
Over time, that client's slice gets bigger and bigger.
The problem isn't having a big client. It's what happens if one client becomes the pizza.
If that account leaves, suddenly you're not just replacing revenue. You may have staffing, systems, and overhead that were built specifically to support it.
I've always been cautious about that.
At Sunday Brunch Agency, I want several healthy slices.
That approach helped us navigate COVID and other storms we've experienced along the way.
Because every business will face storms.
Markets change. Clients change. Industries change.
You can't control all of it.
But you can be thoughtful about how dependent your business becomes on any one piece.
Diversification isn't about avoiding big opportunities. It's about building a company strong enough to handle change.
So take a look at your own pizza.
How big is your biggest slice?
And if it disappeared tomorrow, would the rest of your business still work?
